As much as 50% of the development resources devouted to each application goes into designing a good lighting assembly, often based on ingenuous and heuristic solutions. No matter what hardware you use, a good image goes with a reliable application.
Off the shelf LED lighting solutions for machine vision:
Quite often, a custom imaging solution is key to the final succes, as was the case with this unit, where a coaxial illumnation was obtained by means of mirrors and beam splitters. This rugged unit was used in a huge robot developed for avionic structures assembly. All the time you may think you saved when defining a godd imaging solution will turn back on you when the application leaves the lab for the field, eventually meeting all the real life lighting quirks that make our job so difficult. So, here are our happy programmers, vigorously fiddling with optics, prisms, beam splitters, first surface mirrors, super high efficiency LEDs, holographic film diffusers, laser pattern generators, optic fibers, fresnel lenses, dichroic reflectors, sophisticated light sources or trivial neon lamps (why not welcome a simple solution, when it works fine?) |
